Boys & Girls Club Annual Golf Tournament Raises $45,000

The following is a press release issued by the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton:

Newton, MA (July 18, 2011) – John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton, raised $45,000 from its 28th Annual Golf Tournament held at Woodland Golf Club on July 11, 2011.


NBA Hall of Famer, Dave Cowens, along with NHL legends Bob and Tim Sweeney joined 108 golfers on the greens. Joe Amorosino, 7NEWS Sports Director, livened up the day on prize holes and by encouraging friendly competition. Golfers played their own ball and also vied for a hole-in-one prizecar donated by Boston Volvo Village, not to mention raffle prizes and silent auction items.


Cambridge Savings Bank was the lead sponsor of the event, which was also generously supported by The Village Bank, Rockland Trust, Watertown SavingsBank, Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge, Competitive Edge Physical Therapy and Newburyport Gastroenterology among others. Funds raised from the golf tournament help the club to provide resources to meet the needs of its 854 club members. More than 150 kids per day visit the club, participating in various programs and activities designed to help all kids reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.


The annual golf tournament rotates between three private golf clubs in Newton. Next year’s tournament is set to take place at the prestigious Charles Rive rCountry Club. For more information, please contact Diane Marangoly, Events Coordinator at: 617-630-2066 ext. 111.
