The Newton 5th grade boys Metro West basketball team won the Division 1 title this past weekend with 3 convincing tournament wins, and will be competing in the state tournament the weekend of March 16th and 17th.

The team went 11-1 during the regular season, with the only loss to Needham. The Newton boys came back against Needham in the tournament finals with a very solid 54-37 win. Other wins in the tournament were a 55-21 win over Canton, and a 55-37 victory over a very strong Westwood team.

The team is coached by Tyson Tyler, former Newton South star, and founder of the AAU Boston Bobcats (www.bostonbobcats.com), where most of the team members compete in the off-season. The team members represent a number of Newton Public schools: Angier, Bowen, Memorial Spalding, Peirce, Underwood, and Ward.
