According to a press release issued by the department, McLean is a 10-year veteran of the Newton Police Department. He was pinned at a ceremony held Monday, April 30 at City Hall.
McLean, who is the son of retired Newton Lt. Charles A. McLean, is assigned to the night shift in the patrol bureau where he serves as a mentor and field training officer for his colleagues, the department said.
Prior to coming to Newton, McLean worked in the law enforcement field at several private educational institutions. He is a graduate of the MBTA Police Academy in Quincy and holds a master's degree in criminal justice from Western New England College.
