  • Survived by: Wife of 65 years Elaine C. (Rosengard) Silverman; and children Carol Garden of Newton and Palm Beach, Fla., and Jim Silverman and Michael Cote of Provincetown and Naples, Fla.

Lenny was also survived by grandchildren Noah and Melissa Garden, Jaclyn and Rodahn Baley, Alissa and Jacob Tenney and Rachel Silverman; and great grandchildren Justin, Alexander, Haylee, Leo and Brooke.

He was predeceased by sister Ruth Rappaport.

Lenny started his career in wholesale and retail beauty aid operations for Johnson Wholesale Drug and Perfume company. In April 1941, he resigned to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. After 4 1/2 years of active combat service he was honorably discharged with the rank of Major.

In 1946, he opened his first health and beauty aid store. By 1956, he operated a chain of "Big L" stores in several states and he changed the corporate name to Parkway Distributors. In 1968, after the company achieved tremendous growth and profitability, Leonard took the company public on the American Stock Exchange. Soon after, he also acquired H.L. Moore Drug Exchange, the largest mail order wholesaler of drugs and cosmetics at the time. In 1972, Leonard sold the company but remained with the corporation as President and Chief Executive Officer until he elected to retire in 1975.
