UPDATED: Driver Suffers Serious Injures in Morning Crash in Newton
A car hit a tree near 733 Beacon St.
UPDATED Dec. 31, 3:45 p.m. As of 2 p.m., Newton Police could not offer any additional details on the crash or the driver involved. According to Officer Eric Rosenbaum, the accident is still under investigation.
UPDATED, 12:17 p.m.: Firefighters transported one person to Beth Israel Deaconness Hospital in Boston with serious injuries after a morning car crash on Beacon Street, according to the Newton Fire Department Twitter feed.
The accident occurred when a silver pickup truck slammed into a tree at 733 Beacon St., according to the Newton Fire Department. The driver became trapped, but firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the individual.

He was going fast enough to knock the fire hydrant off the curb, sending it about 30' to smack into my house. We're thrilled the injuries weren't worse.
Newton's emergency services deserve massive praise for their response. They were at the scene within 2-3 minutes and pried open the car extremely efficiently. Really nicely done. Thank you.
