UPDATED: Earthquake Reported in Northeast, Felt in Newton
Did you feel the earthquake in Newton?

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake has been downgraded to a 4.0.
In addition, Governor Deval Patrick has issued a statement on tonight's 'quake:
Many Massachusetts residents felt the effects of an earthquake tonight. According to MEMA, which is monitoring events and has briefed me, the quake was centered some 30 miles outside of Portland, Maine. So far, we have no reports of injury or damage in Massachusetts. MEMA will continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents should use caution if they encounter any damage and take a minute to check in on neighbors, family and friends.

An apparent 4.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Northeastern United States earlier this evening, shaking the Boston area and the city of Newton.
Several users on Twitter have reported feeling it here in Newton around 7:15 p.m.
According to followers on our Newton Patch Facebook page, residents felt the 'quake in West Newton and Newton Centre. Reports on Twitter also indicate residents feeling the shaking in Chestnut Hill and Auburndale.

Felt it on Needham Street, although for the first couple of milliseconds I thought my fat cat was at the foot of the bed scratching herself :)

YES, I certainly felt the quake in the Newton Village of Nonantum. I just turned 80 and my sweet neighbors did check with me to see if I was ok...thank you for yoour timely reporting...Marie

I knew it, I knew it! I was on the phone, and the house was very quiet. I thought it was the trains under my house, But there was no train passing! And usually, my couch doesn't shake, it was really very slight, but I did feel it in New York.
