Edith (Straus) Schmidt, 101, passed away on Aug. 26, 2012 after a brief illness. Schmidt, a Newton resident, was a survivor of the Holocaust who "maintained an optimistic view of life," according to her obituary.
Schmidt volunteered at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and enjoyed history, Scrabble and painting.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Schmidt's memory to the Scandinavian Living Center, 206 Waltham St., West Newton, MA 02465.
