Fire Marshal Releases Cause of Waverley Ave. Fire

"Improper use of smoking materials" was said to be the cause of the four-alarm fire.

A spokesperson for the Fire Marshal's office said today that the "improper use of smoking materials" lead to . 

, 63, the victim of yesterday's fire, was an an associated professor at Bunker Hill Communtiy College and a producer for PBS.

The fire started in a back room on the second floor of the house around 1:30 a.m. and spread up to the third floor of the 140-year-old home. By 2:15 a.m., it was a three-alarm fire and a fourth alarm was eventually called for manpower.
