Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 18
A chance to recycle electronics, new swimming times at Gath Pool and a Hunger Games movie screening.
1. Hunger Games screening. The Newton Free Library will host a free screening of The Hunger Games today in the Druker Auditorium. The movie starts at 2 p.m.
2. Recycle your electronics. The city's Recycling Depot at Rumford Avenue will hold a special drop-off day for electronics today from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. There will be a $12 charge to recycle each television or computer monitor, but all other appliances and electronics will be accepted free of charge. Check or cash is accepted, made payable to "CRT Recycling." A list of accepted materials is available on the city's website.
3. "Pop-up" tailor. Looking to trade in your old suit for one that is new and custom made? Mohan’s Custom Tailors is setting up a "pop-up" store at the Newton Marriott today from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
4. Swim times. Starting today, general swim at Gath Pool will be open from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Crystal Lake is closed for the season due to a serious algae bloom.
