Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 31
Last day for the skate park, a movie at the senior center and a grand opening for the new Mount Ida field/stadium.
1. Grand opening of new field. Mount Ida College will celebrate its brand new turf field and state-of-the-art stadium tonight at its football home opener against UMass Dartmouth. New Mount Ida President Barry Brown and special guest Mayor Setti Warren will do the coin toss prior to kick off. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. More information is available on the Mount Ida Athletics website.
2. Movie at the senior center. The Newton Senior Center shows foreign films on Friday afternoons and today's feature is Mozart's Sister. The show starts at 1 p.m.
3. Farmers' market. The Newton Farmers' Market will set up today at American Legion Post 440 from noon - 5 p.m.

5. Last day for the skate park! The West Suburban YMCA installed a skate park in its parking lot earlier this summer and today is the last day it will be open. The skate park is open noon - 8 p.m. and is supervised by West Suburban YMCA staff who will also offer free beginner lessons from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily, weather permitting. From noon to 3 p.m., the park is open for children ages 12 and under (participants must be accompanied by an adult). After 3 p.m., the park is open for all ages.
