1. Happy Valentine's Day! Still looking for some help with gifts? Want to make some last-minute dinner reservations? Check out our local Valentine's Day guide!

2. Bone Marrow Drive. The Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center will host a bone marrow donor recruitment drive today from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Interested donors who are in good health and between the ages of 18-60 are encouraged to attend. A quick swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match and a potential donor.

In addition to approving funds for a feasibility study to rebuild Angier Elementary (see story posted today at 6 a.m.), the Newton School Committee last night also unanimously approved contracts for the Newton Educational Secretaries Association (NESA), the last union agreement to be signed in the city. Superintendent David Fleishman also announced the district's plans to form a task force to look at the hiring practices and background check procedures for Newton teachers. Stay tuned to Newton Patch later today and tomorrow for more details on these news items.

4. Go Lions! The Newton South High School boys' varsity basketball team will face Bedford High School in a home match today at 5:30 p.m.
