Five Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 24

The Mayor will hold a "Mayor's Night Out", a Newton CPA birthday party and a community meeting to discuss a teacher arrest.

1. Community meeting. The Newton Public Schools will hold a community meeting tonight to discuss the recent events surrounding Underwood Elementary School teacher David Ettlinger, . The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. 

2. Newton CPA Birthday Party. The Newton Community Preservation Act  around the city. Tonight's party, which will be held in the Warren House (1600 Washington St.), will celebrate neighborhoods in Wards 3 and 4 including West Newton, Auburndale and Newton Lower Falls. The free event will run from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. 

3. Land Use. The Land Use committee will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in room 222 at . To view tonight's agenda, check out the .pdf to the right.

4. Mayor's Night Out. Mayor Setti Warren will host another "Mayor's Night Out" tonight at in West Newton. Warren will hold brief meetings with constituents between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to answer questions and concerns about the city. Residents who are interested in speaking with the mayor should contact Aaron Goldman at 617-796-1110 or agoldman@newtonma.gov

5. Go Tigers! The girls' varsity basketball team will face Natick in a home match tonight at 6:30 p.m.
