Five Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 27

A New Phil concert, "Death By Chocolate" and discussion with Aaron David Miller at the JCC.

 

1. Death by Chocolate. Join the Newton and Waltham Rotary Clubs today at the Crowne Plaza in Newton for the 12th Annual "Death by Chocolate" event that raises money for scholarships. The event runs 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and tickets are $20. 

2. The Makeover. Remember the movie that was filmed in Newton back in October? Well, that movie ("The Makeover") will premiere tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC

3. Aaron David Miller at the JCC. Veteran diplomat Aaron David Miller will discuss current issues in the Middle East, including Israel’s elections, at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center tonight at 7 p.m. He will field questions from the audience following his presentation. Tickets are $18.

4. New Phil 'Discovery Series' concert. The New Philharmonia Orchestra will present another one of its interactive, family-friendly 'Discovery Series' concerts this afternoon at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Newton. Join the New Phil and hear the sounds of "The Birds" and the "Pines of Rome" in works of Respighi. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and $10 for students.
