Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 23

1. East West Massage Therapy will host a client appreciation and open house today complete with free massage demonstrations and sauna tours. The event runs from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

2. Stop by the American Legion Post 440 today from noon - 4 p.m. for the Holding Hopes Halloween Bash for Autism Speaks! There will be music, candy, a 50/50 raffle and costume contest. There is no cover charge for the event, but it is $10 to get into a family circus show and donations are also accepted at the door. 

3.The Jackson Homestead and Museum is hosting a family archaeology program today at 1 p.m. "Digging for Evidence" is for families with children 8-years old and up. The cost is $20 per family or $15 for Historic Newton members and includes museum admission and materials. 

4. Pianist Thomas Dawkins will perform pieces by Ravel, Debussy and Satie today at the Newton Free Library. The free concert begins at 2 p.m. 

5. Check out the Nahanton Nature Center Annual Scarecrow Walk today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nature Center. The day will include a scavenger hunt, nature walks, pumpkin decorating, crafts and more. Stop by and check out the Patch scarecrow, Patches!
