Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 11

Land Use Committee holds a public hearing and the city will hold two September 11 ceremonies.

 

1. Sept. 11 ceremony this morning. The city of Newton will hold a September 11 ceremony this morning at 9:30 a.m. on the War Memorial steps outside Newton City Hall

2. Sept. 11 memorial groundbreaking. Local officials and members of the Newton 9-11 Memorial Committee will break ground this evening on the Newton September 11 memorial. The ceremony and groundbreaking will be held at 6 p.m. at the site of the future memorial, Newton Fire Headquarters in Newton Centre.

3. Farmers' market. The Newton Farmers' Market will set up this afternoon at Cold Spring Park from 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

4. Land Use Committee public hearings. The Board of Aldermen's Land Use Committee will hold several public hearings tonight starting at 7 p.m. in the chamber at City Hall. One of tonight's hearings will address a request to demolish the building at 429 Cherry St. in West Newton and rebuild a three-story residential building with 13 housing units. To view tonight's full agenda, check out the .pdf above. 

5. Go Tigers! The Newton North girls' varsity soccer team will face Weymouth in a home match today at 3:45 p.m.
