Art receptions, electronics drop-off recycling and...free parking!
1. Free parking! Did you see the shopping bags covering the parking meters in Newton Centre? First Commons Bank will celebrate its third anniversary by sponsoring free parking in Newton Centre all day today!
2. Art receptions. The New Art Center will hold an opening reception tonight for its new exhibit "Out of the Ruins." It will also hold an opening reception for exhibitions by Jasmine Chen and Julia Klein. The receptions will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
3. Electronics drop-off. The Newton Recycling Depot on Rumford Avenue hosts special Friday/Saturday drop-offs for electronics once per month. Today and tomorrow you can drop off electronics from 8 a.m. - noon. A full list of acceptable materials is available online. There will be a $12 charge to recycle each TV or computer monitor, and all other appliances and electronics accepted free-of-charge. Check or cash accepted, made payable to "CRT Recycling."
4. Farmers' market. The Newton Farmers' Market will set up at American Legion Post 440 today from noon - 5 p.m.
5. An evening with Brian McLaren. Author, speaker and activist Brian D. McLaren will discuss his new book Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road?: Christian Identity in a Multi-Faith World at the First Baptist Church tonight at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance (available online) or $15 at the door.
