Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 4

The Board of Aldermen meet, the farmers' market is open and school is back in session!

 

1. School starts today! The Newton Public Schools will start the 2012-2013 school year today. To help you out, here are 10 things you should know for the first day of school in Newton. In addition, Boston College and Lasell College will start their fall semesters today. 

2. Board of Aldermen. The Newton Board of Aldermen will meet tonight at 7:45 p.m. in the chamber at City Hall. The board will resume discussion and potentially vote on a proposed two-family home on Nevada Street. The board will also consider permits to expand from Max & Leo's Pizza and Rox Diner

3. Farmers' market. The Newton Farmers' Market will set up today at Cold Spring Park from 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. 

4. Centre Street Food Pantry. The Centre Street Food Pantry at Trinity Episcopal Church is open today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers and donations are always needed. For more information on the pantry & referrals check out the Centre Street Food Pantry website. FYI: Both Newton Whole Foods locations will be holding food drives for the Centre Street Food Pantry on Saturday, Sept. 8.
