Original article:

After months of construction and anticipation from Newton foodies, Jonathan's Bar & Grill on Needham Street will be open to the public this evening.

In a brief phone conversation with Newton Patch Friday morning, General Manager David Giardi said the new restaurant will be open tonight for dinner only, 5 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Giardi said the restaurant is going to "take it easy" at the start but plans to eventually open up for lunch service as well.

According to its website, Jonathan's will offer lunch, dinner, a Sunday jazz brunch and an extensive cocktail menu. It advertises "contemporary American cuisine" including burgers, lobster rolls and grilled Ahi Tuna.

Newton native Jonathan Glick launched the restaurant, which is located at 215 Needham St.

Over the last few months, Jonathan's has teased its followers with photos of the restaurant's interior on its Facebook page, with a number of comments from locals asking when the doors would finally be open.

According to its website, Jonathan's will eventually be open Monday - Saturday, 11:30 a.m. - 1 a.m. and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. - midnight.

Stay tuned to Newton Patch for a full story and feature on Jonathan's in the coming weeks.

Jerry -- What Wendy said below is correct. The reason why we called to ask if they were opening was because we saw some people inside eating! However, they told us the restaurant was not going to open to the public until Friday evening.

Jerry, I actually live right down the street and have seen folks in there every night this week and a couple of nights last week, so they must have been doing some soft opening evenings. I can't wait to try it- both for a column here on Patch AND as a member of the eager-eater public!

Food was horrible on Mother's day. Over priced, lack salt in entrees and Stella served in a tall flute glass so 4 beers 22 bucks rip off. No bread basket available, too many waitresses standing around and limited menu so chef should know how to cook it to the top. No presentation and no garnish horrible. Burger, omelette and 3 kids meals HORRIBLE we love eating out but know for sure not to return. If your going to be upscale you need a chef who is creative and knows how things should taste and be presented.
