Man Charged with Newton North Bomb Threat Found Guilty

A man who authorities say issued a bomb threat at  in 2007 was found guilty Monday, the Middlesex County District Attorney's office said. 

Denzel Horne, 21, of Newton was found guilty of a bomb threat and causing a school evacuation. According to Middlesex County DA Spokeswoman Cara O'Brien, Horne was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in the House of Correction with one year to serve and the balance suspended for five years. 

O'Brien said Horne was also issued five years probation for the school evacuation charge. 

The charges stem from a Dec. 12, 2007 incident at Newton North High School that involved a note containing a bomb threat. According to the DA's office, the note was found taped to an entrance of the school and was addressed to the high school's principal. 

Students evacuated the school and Newton Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene. Although no device was found, school was canceled for the remainder of the day, the DA's office said. 

According to the DA's office, this is Horne's second trial on the charges, as the first was called a mistrial due to a hung jury.
