No one was injured in the incident.

The Newton Fire Department and NSTAR crews were on scene at Four Corners in Newton this morning after a manhole reportedly exploded at the intersection of Beacon Street and Walnut Street.

According to Newton Fire Department Spokesman Lt. Eric Fricke, one car was damaged as the vehicle was over the manhole when it exploded. The driver and nearby pedestrians were not injured, Fricke said.

The incident was reported just after 10 a.m., according to scanner reports.

Fricke said the cause of the explosion is unknown at this time, but NSTAR crews are still on scene with Newton Police working to fix the problem.

The explosion did not cause any fires or power outages, Fricke said.
