A Newton North graduate (class of 2011), who did not wish to give her name, emailed Newton Patch this afternoon to let us know that a student named Danny asked girl named Molly to the prom last year -- and took an ad out in an issue of The Newtonite to do it.

The ad can be found in this May 2011 issue of The Newtonite, on page six.

Perhaps this year Molly is returning the favor?

Commuters traveling east on the Mass Pike Friday morning may have spotted a special proposal from a local high school student.

"Danny Prom? Molly" was spelled out this morning on an overpass in Newton just before Exit 17. WBZ-TV was the first to capture the image, and @PeterWBZ Tweeted the photo this morning asking for more info behind the prom proposal.

The message, which can be viewed from Mass Pike eastbound, looks as though it was made using plastic cups.

But who is behind the message?

If you have any tips on who may have left the message, or who it is for -- let us know! Leave a comment in the comments section below or email Melanie.Graham@patch.com.

Could it be a Newton student sending the message? The senior prom is scheduled for Monday, June 4 at the Danvers Port Yacht Club and the tickets went on sale today, according to The Newtonite

The senior prom will be Tues., June 5 at the Skywalk Observatory at Boston's Prudential Center. According to documents posted on the Newton South Seniors Facebook page, it appears as though South's ticket payment and prom forms were due late last month.
