First Juried Art Show Hits the Walls at Newton Mayor's Office

A reception was held for the new exhibit on Friday, Feb. 17.

Although it has been a location for local artwork for more than a year, the mayor's office at Newton City Hall has opened its doors—and walls—to the first juried art show in that space.

Newton Open Studios' (NOS) newest exhibit, Monochrome and Minimalism, will be on display in the mayor's office until May 15. The public can stop in and view the art Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

A reception was held on Friday, Feb. 17 to welcome the new juried artwork. According to NOS Director Ellen Fisher, the exhibit coincides with the installation of a new hanging system that NOS purchased and is lending long-term to City Hall.

"We are really excited about the way this project has come together, as a joint effort between Newton Open Studios, the mayor's office staff, and the New Art Center," Fisher said in an email to Newton Patch. "It's been great fun being able to create this kind of new opportunity for Newton artists and the viewing public."

Kathleen Smith of the New Art Center was the juror for the show.
