MBTA Trains Delayed, Evacuated in Newton

According to MBTA alerts, shuttle buses are replacing all service (both directions) from Riverside to Reservoir.

 

Update 10:48 p.m. According to an MBTA T alert, D Line service has resumed between Reservoir and Riverside stations.

6:25 p.m.: According to Boston.com, roughly 90 passengers were evacuated off the D Line trains today after 400 feet of overhead wire fell near the Newton Centre station platform.

MBTA Spokesman Joe Pesaturo told Boston.com that passengers should expect delays of more than 45 minutes. 

5:45 p.m. According to scanner reports, police have finished evacuating the trains near Newton Centre station.

Passengers on the MBTA D Line may not be having the best start to their weekend. 

According to scanner reports, two MBTA D Line cars are currently being evacuated just outside the Newton Centre station due to downed wires near the station platform. The trains are on the inbound track and roughly 150 yards west of the station. 

Newton Police and Fire crews have responded to the scene to assist with the evacuation, scanner reports said. Transit Police have also responded to the scene.

Trains have been stopped in both directions heading into the station, scanner reports said. 

According to MBTA alerts, shuttle buses are replacing all service (both directions) from Riverside to Reservoir. 

Customers can expect significant delays on the line, the MBTA said, and should seek alternate transportation if possible.
