New Michaels Craft Store to Open in Newton
The Newton location will feature an open design with wider aisles, warm colors and brighter lighting, the company says.

According to an email from a Michaels spokesperson, the grand opening date for the Newton craft store has been pushed back to Sun., April 21.
The grand opening celebration schedule will remain the same, only it will start on April 21 instead of April 14.

Michaels Craft Store confirmed this week that it is opening up a new store at 201 Needham St. in Newton Upper Falls.
The new store, which is located in one of the former Filene's Basement buildings, is set to open on Sunday, April 14, the company announced in a press release Wednesday.
The new, 17,662-square-foot store will employ more than 60 people, the press release said. It will feature "an open design with wider aisles, warm colors and brighter lighting."
“We are thrilled to be joining the Newton community and we hope everyone will come out to help us celebrate during our grand opening week,” Store Manager Pat Kenney said in the press release. “Our new store features thousands of products that will inspire every crafter at any level from beginner to expert, plus classes for our customers to learn new skills in painting, cake decorating, knitting, scrapbooking and more.”
Work has been going on at the future Michaels site for a few months now, with "Coming Soon: Michaels" and "now hiring" signs out front.
A grand opening celebration will be held on April 14 and will kick off with a ribbon cutting at 9:45 a.m. Doors will open at 10 a.m.
The grand opening celebration will include a number of giveaways, the press release said, and the store will also be giving away gift baskets throughout its first week.
