New Walnut Grille Coming to Newton Highlands

A sign posted on the door at 1203 Walnut St. indicates a new restaurant will soon be coming to Newton Highlands.

In addition to a new Rox Diner, it seems another restaurant will soon be moving into the Newton Highlands neighborhood.

A "coming soon" sign for Walnut Grille recently appeared on the door of the former Christina's European Cafe Bistro at 1203 Walnut St.

The sign indicates the new eatery will be a "vegetarian and vegan experience."

The Walnut Grille owners applied for their all alcohol beverage and common victualler license at a Nov. 20, 2012 Newton Board of License Commissioners hearing, according to an agenda from the meeting

The agenda also indicates the owners applied for a weekly and Sunday entertainment license.

According to the Board of License Commissioners document, the owners applied for restaurant hours to be Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. - midnight, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. - midnight.

The space at 1203 Walnut St. was formerly occupied by Christina's European Cafe Bistro, which opened in July 2011. However, the restaurant quietly closed for the summer in July 2012 and never reopened.

But Walnut Grille will not be the only new kid in the village -- earlier this year, Rox Diner owners John Fortin and Paul Louderback announced their plans to open a third Rox Diner location -- the Rox Cafe -- in the space formerly occupied by Bakers' Best.

Stay tuned to Patch for more updates on Walnut Grille.
