Newton Celebrates International Compost Week with Tour, Workshop

Compost tours and a workshop will be held this Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

Have you ever wanted to compost, but just didn't know where to begin?

Well, this week is your chance to start getting dirty.

The city's Environmental Affairs Department is celebrating International Compost Week (May 6-11) by offering a free composting workshop as well as free tours of the compost facility at the Resource Recovery Center on Rumford Avenue.

The composting tours will be held at the following times:

  • Wed., May 8 at 9 a.m.
  • Wed., May 8 at 11 a.m.
  • Sat., May 11 at 1 p.m.

In addition, residents can sign up for a free home composting workshop that will be held this Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in the War Memorial at Newton City Hall.

Residents are also encouraged to visit the Resource Recovery Center to take home small quantities of compost free of charge. The depot is open Monday-Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
