With all 31 precincts reporting in Newton, it appears Ward 4 School Committee candidate Diana Fisher Gomberg pulled ahead of Josh Krintzman by 264 votes. 

Meanwhile, Ward 5 School Committee candidate Steve Siegel beat incumbent Sue Rosenbaum with 4,613 votes to Rosenbaum's 3,445. 

Other races had clear winners tonight with Jonathan Yeo defeating Margaret Albright in Ward 2 by more than 2,400 votes. Ward 8 aldermen-at-large candidates Mitch Fischman and David Kalis also won by a large margin over Tom Sheff. 

In Ward 6, Alderman-at-Large incumbent Charlie Shapiro lost to fellow incumbent Vicki Danberg and challenger Greg Schwartz. 

The Ward 1 aldermen-at-large race, went to the two incumbents: Allan Ciccone Jr. and Carleton Merrill. Challenger Janet Sterman trailed Ciccone by more than 2,200 votes and Merrill by 2,800.

With just two precincts to go, some winners are clear, with the exception of the Ward 4 School Committee race. 

Currently, Diana Fisher Gomberg is ahead of Josh Krintzman by roughly 250 votes. 

The Ward 5 School Committee race is close compared to some other races, with Steve Siegel ahead by roughly 1,100 votes. 

The remainder of the races have clear leaders:

Ward 1 alderman-at-large: Allan Ciccone Jr. and Carleton Merrill

Ward 6 alderman-at-large: Vicki Danberg and Greg Schwartz

Ward 8 alderman-at-large: Mitch Fischman and David Kalis 

Ward 2 School Committee seat: Jonathan Yeo

With 21 out of 31 precincts reporting in Newton, not much has changed in terms of which candidates are in the lead, except for the Ward 4 School Committee race between Josh Krintzman and Diana Fisher Gomberg. The race is currently separated by 232 votes, with Fisher Gomberg in the lead.

With nine of 31 precincts reporting, there is still a close race in the Ward 4 and Ward 5 School Committee races:

Ward 5
Rosenbaum: 1,113
Siegel: 1,447

Meanwhile, Ward 2 School Committee member Jonathan Yeo has taken an early lead against opponent Margaret Albright with 1,807 votes vs. Albright's 983.  

In the aldermen-at-large races, Ward 8 candidates Mitch Fischman and David Kalis are in the lead with 1,553 and 1,831 votes, respsectively. The third candidate, Tom Sheff, is trailing with 666 votes. 

Ward 6 aldermen-at-large candidates Vicki Danberg and Greg Schwartz are nearly tied at 1,764 and 1,716 votes, respectively. Charlie Shapiro is in third with 1,133 votes. 

In the Ward 1 aldermen-at-large races, Carleton Merrill and Allan Ciccone Jr. are ahead with 1,533 and 1,708 votes, respectively. Janet Sterman trails with 836.

From ward to ward the sentiment seems to be that voter turnout is still slow on this election day, with both poll workers and candidates seeing low numbers throughout the day. 

As of 3:10 p.m., 125 voters from Ward 1, Precinct 4 had cast their ballots at the Pellegrini Playground Fieldhouse in Nonantum. Ward 1 Alderman-at-Large candidate Allan Ciccone Jr. was outside the park holding signs as voters moved in and out of the building. 

Over at the Newton Community Service Center in West Newton, poll workers agreed it has been a slow day, with only 167 voters casting ballots in Ward 3, Precinct 3 and 176 in Ward 3, Precinct 1 as of 3:30 p.m.

Ward 2 School Committee candidate Margaret Albright, who was standing outside the Community Service Center, agreed that the turnout has been slow today. 

According one Newton resident via Twitter (@mommamingo) Ward 3, Precinct 4 only had 168 ballots cast around 4:45 p.m.

The Newton Senior Center, a polling location for Ward 2, Precinct 3, had one of the higher ballot numbers today with 331 cast by 3:50 p.m. However, poll workers at the Senior Center agreed that the number is still low for the precinct, which totals around 2,200-2,300 voters. 

Ward 2 School Committee candidate Jonathan Yeo, who was outside the Senior Center greeting voters, was optimistic that the number of voters would pick up after people got out of work.

With signs on every street corner and in front of most polling locations, candidates and supporters were out in the sunshine Tuesday as Newton voters slowly made their way to the polls. 

As of 11:41 a.m., the Ward 4, Precinct 2 polling location at the Hamilton (Lower Falls) Community Center had 175 ballots cast, a number some supporters outside the poll felt was a little low. 

Lower Falls Community Center poll worker Jennifer Casasanto said the voters should stay steady throughout the day, as that location tends to have a lot of assisted living communities that come during the day, rather than a rush-hour crowd in the afternoon and early evening. 

Over at the Weeks House, which is a Ward 6, Precinct 2 polling location, voters were slowly moving in and out and by 12:45 p.m. had 211 ballots cast. 

The Ward 5, Precinct 1 polling location at Emerson Community Center had one of the larger contingencies of signs outside the building, but only 100 voters had cast ballots by 12:15 p.m. 

However, poll worker Frank Dippo said the Ward 5 community center will likely see a spike in voters later in the day. 

Ward 5 Alderman-at-Large Brian Yates, who is running uncontested in this year's race, was outside the center with signs supporting Ward 8 alderman-at-large candidate Mitch Fischman and Ward 6 alderman-at-large candidate Charlie Shapiro. 

Several Upper Falls neighbors were also looking to get signatures and support for the Upper Falls Greenway and Upper Falls Area Council.
