UPDATED: Reported House Fire on Freeman Street in Newton

The fire was in a 1.5-story Cape house and went to two alarms, according to scanner reports.

11:45 a.m. Scanner reports indicate the fire has been knocked down and some crews are being released from the scene.

Newton Fire Department crews are responding to 64 Freeman St. this morning for a reported house fire. 

As of 11:30 a.m., a second alarm had been struck for a fire that started in the basement and extended up into the home, according to scanner reports. 

The house is a 1.5-story Cape house, according to scanner reports. 

As of 11:40 a.m., the main body of the fire had been knocked down, according to scanner reports, and crews had started "extensive" overhaul.
