Three local firefighters climbed 41 flights of stairs in their gear to raise money for the American Lung Association.

Climbing 41 flights of stairs is hard. Climbing it in firefighter gear is even harder.

Three Newton firefighters recently participated in the American Lung Association's "Fight for Air Climb" fundraiser at One Copley Place in Boston, climbing 41 flights of stairs in their fire gear and air bottles.

The three firefighters who participated in the Feb. 2 event included Newton Lt. Kevin Mancini, FF/EMT Joe Deluca and FF/EMT Phil McCully. The team raised more than $1,200 for the American Lung Association, according to an email from McCully.
