Newton Mayor Declares State of Emergency
Trees and wires are down across the city, according to scanner reports.

As locals begin to feel the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Setti Warren has officially declared a state of emergency in the city of Newton.
According to a press release issued this morning by the Newton Police Department, the State of Emergency was put into effect as of 8 a.m. Monday.
All schools are closed in Newton today as well as non-emergency municipal buildings (City Hall, libraries etc.) Trash and recycling pickup has been delayed by one day.
Throughout the morning, scanner reports indicate that there are a number of trees, wires and poles down throughout Newton. However, there has not been any reports of major damage or flooding.
An NSTAR power outage map indicates that as of 11:20 a.m., only five customers in Newton are without power.
