Newton Police Asking for Help in Finding Missing New York Man

Vehicle was found on Middlesex Road where police say it's been for three days.

Local officials are asking for help in finding a missing New York man whose car has been parked on Middlesex Road in Newton for three days.

According to Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker, the man has been identified as 24-year-old David Mark, a diabetic who left Albany, NY sometime Wednesday morning.

Mark is described as a white male, 5'5" with dark hair. He was last seen wearing a waist-length leather coat, a tan knit shirt (no collar) and black and grey Adidas sneakers.

Apotheker said Mark's parents are concerned for their son's safety because he is a Type 1 diabetic and left his medication at home in New York. Without his medication, Mark could end up in a confused state.

After Mark left his home Wednedsay morning, his highway transponder (used for tolls) was last pinged at Exit 14 on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Police said he was then spotted by a waitress at Boston Beer Works near Fenway between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, who said Mark "appeared to be in good spirits."

Mark's cellphone was then pinged around 6:40 p.m. at the Charlestown Navy Yard, Apotheker said. It seems Mark returned to his car on Middlesex Road later on, a phone was found in the car, however, detectives determined it did not belong to Mark.

According to a witness on Middlesex Road, the car has been sitting on the street for three days, Apotheker said.

Police say Mark has a sister that lives about a mile from Middlesex Road, however, she told police Mark has not made any contact with her in recent days.

Editor's note: police initially reported Mark's cell phone was found in the car on Middlesex Road. However, detective determined Saturday the phone inside the car did not belong to Mark.
