Newton Police: Attempted Break-in on Dedham Street Friday

The incident happened around 1:50 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Dedham Street.

Police responded to Dedham Street earlier today after a homeowner reported someone attempting to break into her house around 1:50 p.m. 

According to a report from the Newton Police, the homeowner heard a knock at the door, but did not answer. Shortly after the knock, the homeowner "heard a smash" and saw the suspect attempting to open the front door to the house. 

The homeowner said she screamed, at which time the suspect fled east on foot down Dedham Street.

The incident happened in the 900 block of Dedham Street, police said. 

The suspect was described as a white male, in his 40s, clean shaven, ruddy complexion and wearing a maroon sweatshirt. Scanner reports from this afternoon indicated he had "sandy grey hair."

Police said the homeowner chased after the suspect and spotted him getting into a small, "aqua blue" and "rounded" vehicle. The vehicle reportedly fled east on Dedham Street and then down Baker Street toward West Roxbury.
