Newton Police Dept. Reminds Residents of Right to File Citizen Complaints
Complaints or commendations against/for a Newton Police officer can be submitted verbally or in writing.
The Newton Police Department is reminding residents this month of their right to file citizen complaints against Newton Police officers.
Citizens can confidentially file verbal or written complaints against police officers, the department said in a press release.
Written complaints can be hand delivered to a superior officer at the Newton Police Department or mailed to Interim Chief Howard Mintz, 1321 Washington St., Newton MA 02465.
Commendations can also be made verbally or submitted in written form. Compliments and commendations are copied to the personnel files of the individual officers, the department said.
For more information on filing complaints or commendations, residents can call the Newton Police Department at 617-796-2100.
Under national accreditation standards, the department is required once a year to remind citizens of their right to file complaints and commendations, the press release said.
