Newton's Best Outdoor Hidden Gem: The Winner is...

We asked, you voted, and the results are in.

The weather is getting warmer and the sun is (finally) out. Now that spring is here and summer is making its way in, we want to know where the best place is to spend these sunny days.

Over the last five days, we asked Patch readers what their favorite outdoor hidden gem is in Newton. The winner: Hemlock Gorge.

Located in Newton Upper Falls, Needham and Wellesley, Hemlock Gorge is a 23-acre reservation that includes trails, views of the Charles River and a stunning arch bridge known as Echo Bridge.

The falls at Hemlock Gorge have quite a bit of history to them, as they supplied power to mills in the Upper Falls for hundreds of years. The falls at Hemlock Gorge are the largest drop along the entire length of the Charles River, making them a huge source of power for the area.

Hemlock Gorge received 40 percent of our readers' votes to take home the win. The trails along the Sudbury and Cochituate Aqueducts came in second place with 12 percent of the vote.

For more information on Hemlock Gorge, check out the Friends of Hemlock Gorge website, or blog posts from our Upper Falls blogger, Jerry Reilly.

Next week, our Readers' Choice poll will be looking for the best place in Newton to stock up for your Memorial Day cookout. Voting starts Monday at 6 a.m.
