Newton South Graduate Dies in Accident
Lucas Voss-Kernan was a 2010 graduate of Newton South.

Superintendent David Fleishman and the Newton School Committee took a moment of silence during Tuesday night's meeting for Lucas Voss-Kernan, who tragically died on Fri., May 25.
Fleishman said Voss-Kernan's parents told the school district their son was "really coming to his own" and in a good place as he was heading out on a road trip with friends.
"Today was a tough day for students at Newton South," Fleishman said, noting Voss-Kernan's many friends.
Voss-Kernan participated in a number of sports at Newton South and had a particular bond with his track coach, Fleishman said.

A 2010 graduate of Newton South High School tragically died Friday after an accident in Seattle, Washington.
According to a report in the Boston Globe, Lucas Voss-Kernan, 19, was climbing on a structure at a Seattle park when he fell. Officials could not be clear as to what Voss-Kernan was climbing on, but that he died of blunt force trauma.
Voss-Kernan was on a road trip to California and was traveling with friends, the report said.

According to a post in the Village 14 blog, Newton South principal Joel Stembridge alerted parents to the tragedy in an email. Stembridge said arrangements have not yet been made for Voss-Kernan.
Stembridge said in his email that counselors were available for students Tuesday.
