Superintendent David Fleishman and the Newton School Committee took a moment of silence during Tuesday night's meeting for Lucas Voss-Kernan, who tragically died on Fri., May 25.

Fleishman said Voss-Kernan's parents told the school district their son was "really coming to his own" and in a good place as he was heading out on a road trip with friends.

"Today was a tough day for students at Newton South," Fleishman said, noting Voss-Kernan's many friends.

Voss-Kernan participated in a number of sports at Newton South and had a particular bond with his track coach, Fleishman said.
