Photo Gallery: Giving Back with NewtonSERVES

The 11th annual NewtonSERVES day of community service was held Sun., May 15.

For 11 years, has given community members one day to make a big difference in The Garden City. Yesterday marked the annual day of community service, where volunteers from around Newton gathered to work on various service projects at local non-profits, parks, city buildings and schools.

“Yesterday’s NewtonSERVES was a great example of residents of all ages working together to help make their community all that it can be,” said Mayor Setti Warren in a press release issued Monday. “It was great to see so many people donating their time and energy to make improvements to their village.”

The press release said hundreds of volunteers turned out to participate in more than 60 service projects across the city. 

The day began with a morning rally and breakfast followed by service work throughout the community. At the end of the day, volunteers gathered at where NewtonSERVES held an ice cream sundae party for participants complete with live music.

In addition to the May 15 NewtonSERVES day,  recently announced plans to expand the program to all 13 villages in the city as a year-round project.
