The finished product - Sidewalk Sam visited Newton North students on Wed., June 6 to add some Vincent van Gogh sidewalk art just outside the school's Theatre Entrance on Elm Road. The artwork was a gift of thanks for the students designing Sam a new painting wheelchair.

Over the last few months, students in Newton North's Innovation Lab have worked to design and create a special painting wheelchair for local artist Sidewalk Sam.

Sam, who works with the non-profit Art Street Inc., creates (or recreates) art masterpieces on sidewalks.

The painting wheelchair designed for Sam allows him to get lower to the ground and continue to spread his art to different communities.

As a way of saying thanks, Sam visited Newton North on Wed., June 6 to recreate a work of art on the sidewalk outside the school's theatre entrance. Working with a number of art students, Sidewalk Sam gave the gift of Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" in the form of sidewalk art.

The art can be found just outside the school's theatre entrance, off Elm Road.

Special thanks to Innovation Lab Director Steve Chinosi for the information and the photos.

Sidewalk did a piece outside the Newton Free Library in 2011 just before our annual Spring Fling fundraiser. The art he creates, though temporary, endures in the hearts of those of us who have been admiring it through the years in the Greater Boston area.
