PHOTOS: Starting Fresh at Newton's New Farm Stand

Community members gathered at the Newton Community Farm's new Winchester Street farm stand June 14 for an official ribbon cutting. The stand, which opened earlier this month, was recently rebuilt after it burned down earlier this year.

Although the stand typically opens in April, the Newton Community Farm had to delay the opening of its Winchester Street farm stand this year after it burned down in February. The fire was likely arson, officials said at the time.

After the fire, the farm started raising money to build a new stand, which will now be managed by a farm staff person whenever it is open.

National Lumber helped provide some of the wood at a discounted price and local contractor Mark Quigley built the new stand. Read more about the new stand and new happenings at the farm in this recent Newton in the Kitchen column

The farm stand hours are Tuesday-Friday, 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Newton Community Farm will also have a stand at the Friday farmers' market at Post 440. The market runs July 6 - Oct 5, 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
