The latest from the Newton Police

Suspicious clown

A woman walking back from the Riverside T station told police Monday she was followed by a man who was wearing clown make-up, a plaid shirt, jeans and a rainbow wig, reports said.

The woman told police she was walking to Hancock Avenue and when she walked by 275 Grove St., she was approached by the suspicious male who was riding a small bicycle.

Reports said the man asked her where Waltham was, and when she didn’t respond, he repeated loudly “Where’s Waltham?” The man then got off the bicycle and started walking toward the woman in an aggressive manner, police said.

According to reports, the woman saw the same man on the train earlier talking to younger girls. Waltham Police, Lasell Police and Transit Police were all notified.

Warrant served

A Newton man was arrested Sunday on a warrant out of Westborough District Court, reports said.

Jeffrey Howard Senecal, 29, of 15 Alden Place, was arrested on a warrant for larceny over $250, police said.

Copper thief out there

A man reported to police last Friday that someone had stripped his walls, attic and boiler room of copper sometime between 4 p.m. Tuesday (5/17) and 10 a.m. Thursday (5/20). Several walls were damaged as well as a sink, reports said.

Car break-ins

Police responded to a couple of car break-ins last week:

  • 450 Auburn St. (Auburndale Commuter Rail parking lot); Volkswagen Jetta was parked around 12:10 p.m. Saturday and when driver returned around 5:15 p.m. the same day, he found a rear passenger side window smashed. A large rock was found in the back of the car and a black leather box was stolen.
  • Temple Street; Toyota Sienna parked in the driveway Thursday [5/19] afternoon, left unlocked but most possessions were brought into the house. A son, though, left a backpack in the car that contained an Apple laptop and the bag was missing by Friday [5/20] afternoon. A neighbor found the backpack nearby, but the laptop was missing.

House break-in on Caldon Path

A woman told police Saturday that someone broke into her home while her and her son were out.

According to reports, the woman said her and her son were gone between 6:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. The thief broke into the home and stole the son’s iPod and Dell laptop as well as several pieces of jewelry from the mother’s jewelry box.

Pants thief can’t get away

A Canton man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly tried stealing two pairs of pants from Bloomingdales, reports said.

Matthew Lawrence Quinn, 39 of 84 Walpole St., Canton, was arrested for larceny over $250, police said.

According to reports, a loss prevention officer saw Quinn take two pairs of jeans and place them inside his coat before moving to the dressing room. While in the dressing room, Quinn was found trying to put on the two pairs of jeans underneath his pair of pants. Reports said Quinn was also found with a pair of pliers used to take off security tags.

More “Urban Development” soliciting

A man was found soliciting magazines for Urban Development near the intersection of Dedham Street and Upland Avenue Tuesday night, police said. The man was asked to stop, reports said, as Urban Development is not registered for soliciting in the city.

This is the second instance of Urban Development soliciting police have reported in the last week.

Waltham man faces license charges

A Waltham man was arrested Tuesday on license charges after police pulled him over for failing to use a turning signal, reports said.

According to reports, Godoy was pulled over after not using a signal while turning onto Commonwealth Avenue from Lexington Street. Godoy only had a license from Guatemala, police said.
