UPDATED: Washington Street Walgreens Robbed by Knife Wielding Man

A man wearing a Patriots sweatshirt jumped over the counter and robbed the pharmacy.

According to Your Town Newton, one of the Walgreens employees, a 67-year-old man, heard the robbery at the pharmacy counter and announced over the store loudspeaker that the store was being robbed, and to call 911

The employee then approached the suspect, who punched and kicked the employee before fleeing down Hovey Street, Your Town Newton reported. 

The employee was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A man pulled a knife and jumped over the counter to rob the pharmacy at Walgreens on Washington Street this evening before fleeing the scene.

At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Newton Police responded to the Walgreens at 399 Washington St. for a man who pulled a knife and demanded drugs, Newton Police spokesman Lt. Bruce Apotheker said.

"After obtaining an undetermined amount of (drugs), he started to flee the store but was involved with a confrontation with another male employee," Apotheker said in a statement. "The suspect kicked the employee and fled the area on foot."

Police are searching the area for the man with the help of a search dog, Apotheker said.

The employee was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, Apotheker said. 

The suspect, a white male, wore a dark blue Patriots sweatshirt with the hood pulled tightly over his face, according to Apotheker. The suspect was described as being over 6-feet tall, heavy build, who wore the sweatshirt, light colored pants and white sneakers, Apotheker said.

There are certain types of knives which already are indeed illegal to carry. In this account of what happened, the knife did not do any actual physical harm to the employees, it was merely a tool of intimidation. For all we know from this article, it was a plastic butter knife.

No, the actual physical injury this man caused was by kicking the employee. So perhaps you want to facetiously suggest we should outlaw shoes and have a national foot registry. Right?
