TELL US: Who Won Final Presidential Debate?

Foreign policy was the topic at this last debate between Obama and Romney. Which candidate's views resonated with you?

The US economy managed to be a dominant presence in the final presidential debate Monday night, even in a debate focused on foreign policy.

The tone of the debate between Pres. Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney was calmer than the last meeting, as topics included the impact of a soaring US budget deficit on American strength and security as well as Syria, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and more.

Both men were articulate about their stands. But whose views spoke the most to you? Who do you trust with 'getting the 3 a.m. phone call'? Who won this final debate? Tell us in the comments below.

President Obama was in command with substantive knowledge of policy and diplomatic affairs. Governor Romney seemed troublingly out of his depth and frequently indulged in me-tooism in his admitted support for Obama's positions. Governor Romney never talks about veterans, and Obama stressed his administration's ongoing commitment to their welfare and advancement. Romney never mentions that his proposed tax cuts will hurt veteran's services when our nation should be doing more for those who served and are serving, not less. Again, Romney stated that government doesn't create jobs when in plain fact it creates millions of them: teachers, police officers, fire fighters, service men and women, antiterrorism agents, food, water, and environment protection inspectors, workplace health and safety enforcement agents, and on and on. Government also buys supplies from private sector companies, thus promoting job growth. That's why Romney and the GOP are apoplectic about military cuts because those cuts would affect government suppliers. Ask the laid-off teacher or fire fighter, or active duty service man or woman, or Lockheed or Boeing worker if the government creates job, and then ask them to explain it to Governor Romney.

What exactly is the "good" that you think Obama will be doing? What exaclty is does make "things" better mean? His poltical philosphy is clearly one of a big Federal Government, centralized power, socialist type control, and property redistribtuion. Maybe some feel that defines "good" and what "better" means. I, however disagree with this notion of "good" and "better."

On foreign policy, Romney didn't have any new ideas. He simply said he'd do what the administration is doing, except he'd do it sooner and stronger and it would work better when he did it. Obama was on the offense and Romney was strangely passive in not responding to criticisms. I'm not sure why he took that strategy or how it will benefit him. I thought both did a good job in their concluding statements. Obama is right in saying we are on the right path after the failed policies of the previous administration, but Romney is right about the fact that Washington is broken and we have to get bipartisan collaboration.

Obama wiped floor with Romney. Romney has no positions on anything. He will say anything he thinks anyone wants to hear. He doesn't even see 90% of Americans. He's an insecure, self-entitled bully, and the President floored him. Game over. Under the President, the banks were saved, the auto industry was saved, the stock market doubled, and Bin Laden's gone. The next four years are going to be much, much, much better because of all the heavy lifting Obama has already done (against the total opposition of the Republican Congress who worked hard to tank the economy). Heck yes, we are much, much better off than we were in Fall '08 or Spring '09 when Obama took office. How many more billions do the Koch Brothers and Sheldon Adelson need? And how many people will lose health care, Social Security and Medicare to pay for more tax cuts for them? Why are the Republicans in such a rush to recreate the Gilded Age? It was really a pretty horrible time for the vast majority of Americans. Widespread prosperity with broad spending by a large middle class is what drives demand and jobs. That's what moves the stock market. That's what raises everyone. More tax cuts for billionaires just go into overseas bank accounts and zero-sum hedge funds that create nothing of value. If that created jobs, we'd be swimming in them now. People don't create jobs because they have extra cash. They create jobs when there's demand. You need broad spending, not a narrow elite class. The banks were not saved nor was the auto industry saved under Obama. What Obama did do was seize GM from its shareholders and bondholders and transfer its ownership to the federal government and the labor union. The US auto industry wasn't saved by Obama. Ford wasn't saved by Obama. Second and third tier auto suppliers weren't saved by Obama. Domestic manufacturing and assembly operations of foreign auto makers were not saved by Obama. All of these aspects of the auto industry were saved by their individual acitons and decisions duirng the economic downturn. By the way, the jury is still out on whether GM has been saved or if the "investment" by taxpayers to "Save it" will be recovered. He did not save the Banks. The federal government, through the Fed, provided capital to some banks, not all banks. Do some research to see what really happened beyond the platitudinous "He saved the auto industry" nonsense.

William Tell makes some very sound points about the recession. It was brought on by a credit bubble that burst, leaving individuals, families, and companies with high levels of debt, which forced them to cut their spending. The cut-back depressed the economy as a whole. Cutting interest rates to encourage spending hasn't worked because families can't spend more, and interest rates can go to zero but no further. The goal of the administration's stimulus was to help sustain employment while the private sector repaired its collective balance sheet. Romney is denying the analysis of noted economists and the International Monetary Fund that recoveries after high private-sector debt crises are protracted. But the U.S. economy is recovering, with housing on the increase and job creation exceeding growth. If the president is the problem, why are we doing better than most other advanced countries? Recessions brought on by private-sector bubbles are different from recessions caused by high interest rates. The former, according to economists, are characterized by a "prolonged jobless recovery." But for the Republican obstructionism, the stimulus might have been bigger and more long-lived. We are experiencing a bounceback. That electing Romney will magically make everything better is simple not born out by the studies of respected students of history. Obama haters will not be convinced by inconvenient facts, though.

On election day you will see a landslide victory .... If you are the betting type then I would double down. There is absolutely zero comparison between these two men as leaders, as businessmen who can balance budgets and get people jobs, and as someone you would want to go to war with you. Ask yourself this question and it was asked tonight , what is the single biggest threat to American security, and our president did not even mention a nucular armed Iran. It was however the first words out of the governors mouth without hesitation ... Landslide victory on Nov 6 . Christians will turn out in record numbers and make their voices heard loud and clear this November .

I'd have to say Obama won the debate on points because he had more memorable zingers.
But on substance I'd say is was pretty even. They both scored some unanswered blows.
Romney could have been a bit more aggressive. But his strategy was to not have any gaffes. And that much worked. In fact the fact checkers are giving it to Romney. Obama's camp is already walking back his statement that "sequestration" won't happen

But here is what the polling data tells us. And I'll quote the PPP poll that was mentioned, some every important internal numbers.

Who one the debate
Obama 55%
Romney 40 %
Tie 5%

Independents More likely to vote for:

Obama 32%
Romney 47%
No difference 20%

Less likely to vote for:
Obama 48%
Romney 35%
No difference 18%

Here is where it gets interesting.

11% of Democrats are less likely to vote for Obama
12% are more likely to vote for Romney

Conversely
only 6% of Republicans are less like to vote for Romney
while 7% are more likely to vote for Obama

So Romney swayed more Democrats that Obama did Republicans.

If you search hard enough, you can find figures to support whatever camp you are in. What it comes down to is what your own situation is.I watched all 3 debates, And while i gave #2 to Obama, Romney took the first and in my opinion. the last. HE has a plan, a vision, and can get the job done. Last night Obama offered nothing on substance, had no answers for dealing with nuclear proliferation, and all in all whenever he couldn't directly answer anything, he got sarcastic. Romney could have blew him out of the water, and why he didn't press harder I don't know, But he definitely won. But as with anything, there are polls boosting whatever side you are on. It's up to you, 4 more years of a stale or worsening economy, 4 more years of our standing in the world decreasing, 4 more years of borrowing and spending and jobless rates growing, or taking a new direction. I will take the new direction. It has to be better than what we have now.

Romney sees 90% of Americans having to pay an extra $4,000.00 in taxes as of Jan 2, 2012. The money due for the President saving the banks, the money due that was given to the auto industry and its union members while taking the bond money from the pension of the senior citizens.

Yes, the stock market doubled because the banks are gambling in stocks with government money, while citizens are trying to save their money in gold, bonds and land. Paying $3.80 a gallon for both gasoline for the car and heating oil for the home along with increase of food prices, Why does Hope and Change cost so Much?

Government should not spend tax dollars on loosing companies to create temporary jobs; private sector money should be invested in jobs.

The Elite class requires more regulation to kept people down, such as Massachusetts stopping PTA’s from selling cookies at schools.

Romney is promoting strength for the country while Obama is blaming the country’s problems on Video movies

@ Magellan... I don't believe anyone posting on thread thinks Romney can carry Massachusetts. If they do they are delusional.

As for this latest debate. I simply posted some details from the PPP poll that had been previously quoted.
No doubt that Obama was seen as the winner of the debate. If I had to score it objectively as debate, I'd give it to Obama. And has been pointed out by others I'm as partisan of a Republican as there is.
Tactically speaking Romney left too much on the table. He didn't take advantage of many opportunities.
Strategically however, Romney accomplished what he set out to. The CNN Poll asked "Can Romney handle the job of Commander in Chief?" And the very same people that said Obama won the debate, said yes 60% to 38%. Now that's not my assessment that's what the people polled by CNN said.
So it's safe to conclude IMO that Obama's win will change Romney's momentum.
Over the next few days, probably by Friday or Saturday when the tracking polls that take 3 days averages will tell us what effect if any this last debate had on the overall fundamental trends of this race. By Monday of next week Gallup's poll of like voters which takes a 7 rolling average will tell even more.

Teachers, teachers, teachers, Wonderful, more and more civil servents. I have one question how do we pay for this, I know myself im pushed to the limit with property taxes, if there are people out there who want pay more and more good luck. Once Obama prints more money and sends to the states, for all these jobs, teachers, firefighters, cops etc, and that runs out, what next another tax OVERIDE, these towns and cities are broke now how can you keep raising taxes on home owners, business. The public sector is the biggest drain on the economy it`s a kin to crack addicts they keep raising taxes and they can`t get enough, it`s, more and more and more. These jobs are needed of course, however in a reasonable way it`s not going bail the economy out, in fact it extracts from the economy does not add or produce, this is what OBAMA is all about and frankly it`s what Massachusetts is all about because in just about everyone`s family there lurks a public sector worker somewhere.Hence they vote democrat always, they have been in complete control of this state since 1960 and we are just about the most expensive place in the country to do anything. When Governor Romney talks about his record of cooperation in Massachusetts, I admire his chutzpah. The way legislators I know tell it, Romney was the imperial governor with a private elevator and a state trooper on guard at his private parking space. A velvet rope barred access to his office, removing any risk of rubbing shoulders with ordinary citizens in the foyer. Health care reform was on the agenda when Romney took office, and he played a role in getting in done. It is the template for the Affordable Care Act, which Romney now opposes. While distancing himself from Romneycare, he brags about balancing budgets, but doesn't mention how he cut local aid to cities and towns resulting in layoffs, property tax increases, and Prop 2 1/2 overrides. He doesn't talk about the huge increases in fines he imposed, nor the hikes in the cost of licenses that workers such as hairdressers and contractors needed to make a living. He doesn't call those increases taxes. He doesn't mention that the nonexistent cordial relationship with the legislature was marked by constant overrides of his vetoes. He doesn't mention that he was an absentee governor for much of his term while he was campaigning across the country and maligning "his state" in speeches. He talks about his successful management of the Olympics, yet the Salt Lake City newspaper didn't endorse him and asked who he is and what he believes in. Many voters want to know that, too.

Romney agreed with what Obama is doing in a variety of countries and a number of policies. About 10 different times he said "I agree with President Obama on this" Why shouldnt he? Obama has essentially embraced the basic foundations about how we inter act with global terror established by George W. Bush. Guantamino is still open, drone strikes exceeds Bushes numbers by several orders, and the Patriot Act is alive and well thank you very much. What's to disagree about? It's all about jobs and the debt, in that order. Obama got bin Laden. Ok,....AND......

One more time ... And I stress the Christian voters will turn out in the 20-25 plus million area and vote for the morally correct man on Nov 6 to lead our country . I am not a right or left but this is going to happen on Nov 6 . You be be the judge if that number is larger then a drove as one stated

If Obama is re-elected, do we have our sister city in France picked out? Will the wealthy flee the United States as they are doing in France?

The grown up at the debate won! Romney proved to be presidential and confident in his explanations of foreign policy and economy. Obama focused on his one liners and his talking points. Mitt may not win Massachusetts but it will be closer than anyone thought possible. This will push Scott Brown over Granny the fake Indian, un-liscense lawyer. Mitt in a landslide, Scott by 5 points.

Some candidates make you shake your head in disbelief. Take Indiana GOP U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, for example. In a debate Tuesday, he said that he opposes aborting a pregnancy resulting from a rape because, "it is something that God intended." Please Lord save us from such heartless religiosity. Mitt Romney has endorsed Mourdock and supports him in an ad running in Indiana. After learning of his endorsee's abortion comment, Romney did what he often does, he backpedaled, saying he didn't share Mourdock's views. Question: Didn't Romney know about Mourdock's extremist position before he endorsed him? Isn't Romney concerned about what damage his frequent flip flopping, backpedaling, and disavowing does to his credibility? First it was "consensual rape" Akin. Now, it's "rape pregnancy is God's plan" Mourdock. What will the "binders of women" who see the Indiana Mourdock/Romney ad think? Mourdock's comment and Romney's association have gone viral on social media, so women across the nation might think twice about voting for a presidential candidate who endorses a misogynist right-wing zealot.

Ain't nothin' worse than a misogynist right-wing zealot. Unless it's two of 'em.

Romney has distanced himself from Mourdock. You can't paint 'em with the same brush.

HEADS UP PEOPLE!

If you haven't seen the morning news [or my blog] - check it now. The CIA just blew Obama's 'cover' [i.e. that he didn't know Benghazi was a terrorist attack].

They leaked the emails - one at 6:07 PM on Sept 11th - naming Ansar al-Sharia as bragging on Twitter about the attack....

In other words, OBAMA and his cartel KNEW from the beginning! They then spent weeks lying to you and blaming an obscure movie. What cowards!

Obama never was worthy - this should be the final nail....

Question for Sunni Barack:

Since you're obviously sooo much smarter than I am, - would you either stop using big wurds, or explain them in footnotes?

Exactly what is 'crypto-fascist'? Can you use it in a sentence that isn't directed at me?
