- Two former aldermen announced this week their plans to run again for the Newton Board of Aldermen. Rick Lipof announced his candidacy for Ward 8 alderman-at-large and Allan Ciccone Sr. announced his bid for Ward 1 alderman-at-large.
- In other Newton political news, Waban resident Chris Steele announced his candidacy for Ward 5 alderman-at-large.
- A three-alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex on Charlesbank Road this week, leaving several families without a home.
- Mayor Setti Warren gave his State of the City address Monday night and stressed the importance of the upcoming override vote.
- A big storm hit the Newton area this week, dumping nearly two feet of snow. It forced schools to close the city into a snow emergency. Gov. Deval Patrick also issued a travel ban for part of Friday and Saturday and the MBTA remains shut down as of Saturday evening.
