Tonight: MIT Students Present Recommendations for West Newton Improvements

A group of students from MIT who have been studying the village and Washington Street corridor will present their final report tonight.

After months of research and analysis, a group of students from MIT will present their final report and recommendations tonight for future development and improvements to West Newton and the Washington Street corridor.

The meeting, titled "Envisioning West Newton Village and Washington Street", will take place tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chamber at City Hall. Residents, business owners and community members are welcome to attend.

The process has involved graduate students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Urban Studies and Planning who studied West Newton and its potential for growth and redevelopment.

Tonight's meeting follows a meeting in October where the graduate students presented preliminary findings and analysis on zoning, parking, transportation, economic development and infrastructure.

MIT students have done similar projects in Newton with proposed development and improvement on Needham Street

For more information, contact Amanda Stout in the Planning Department at 617-796-1127 or astout@newtonma.gov. The MIT students can also be contacted directly at 11.360@mit.edu.

A copy of the preliminary report is available on the city website. A copy of the final report will eventually be posted as well.
