Tournament Update: Newton North Baseball Heads to North Div. 1 Finals
One team finishes a season and the other one continues on in the tournament.
Despite their No. 22 seed (out of 23 teams total) the Newton North baseball team has proven its skill and fought all the way to the North Div. 1 finals.
The Tigers, who defeated No. 7 Acton-Boxborough 8-7 yesterday, will head to the finals tomorrow, June 9, at LeLacheur Park in Lowell. They will face the winner of the Malden vs. Lowell semifinal game to be played this afternoon.
Prior to their semifinal win yesterday, the Tigers defeated No. 3 St. John's Prep 7-4 in the division quarterfinals and had a comeback 5-4 win against Billerica in the first round of the tournament. Their successful run all started with a 10-7 preliminary round victory over Lexington.
Overall this season, the Tigers have moved to a record of 14-10.
After a thrilling 8-7 extra-inning victory earlier this week over Chelmsford, the No. 3 Newton North softball team fell to No. 10 Acton-Boxborough Thursday, 3-1, in the North Div. 1 semifinals.
The Tigers, who also had a 6-1 first round victory over Methuen last week, finish the season with an impressive 19-4 record overall.
The No. 5 Newton South girls tennis team, who are 15-5 on this season, will face Chelmsford this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in a North Div. 1 semifinal match.
The South girls started the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Methuen, followed by a 5-0 quarterfinal win over Masconomet Regional.
This afternoon's game will take place at Newton South.
