Trial Date Moved for Wife of Accused Child Molester
Marian Burbine is facing six counts of reckless endangerment of a child, and two counts of operating an unlicensed day care business.
Marian Burbine, the wife of accused serial child molester John Burbine, now has an expected trial date of August 9.
The Burbines are accused of running an illegal daycare based out of Wakefield, Mass., where John Burbine allegedly abused at least a dozen children who attended the daycare center.
At least one of those alleged victims is from Newton, officials say.
John Burbine faces nearly 100 counts of child sex abuse charges stemming from the alleged abuse carried out at the couple's daycare center.
Meanwhile, Marian Burbine faces six counts of reckless endangerment of a child and two counts of operating an unlicensed day care business.
During Marian Burbine's latest appearance in Middlesex Superior Court Wednesday, Marian Burbine's attorney, John Ruehrwein, told the court that he was seeking additional time for the trial because of the large amount of evidence associated with the case. The previous trial date for Marian Burbine had been June 25.
Marian Burbine is next due back in court on April 25 for a suppression hearing, with a pre-trial conference set for July 30. Ruehrwein told the court that there would be a motion to suppress, but that a decision on a motion to dismiss would not be made until the discovery process is over.
The Burbines ran the Waterfall Education Center, which offered tutoring and babysitting services but was not properly licensed. John Burbine was a level 1 sex offender stemming from a years-old conviction that allowed him to avoid detection even as he worked among children.
Marian Burbine has remained under home confinement in Wakefield since late last year.
