What Newton Business Were You Sad to See Close in 2012?

In a city as big as Newton, businesses come and go all the time. Tell us which ones you were sad to see go in the comments section below.

With more than a dozen restaurant openings or renovations and two major retail developments on Route 9, 2012 was certainly a busy year for new businesses in Newton.

But not all the changes in the Newton retail landscape this year were additions; many businesses and restaurants closed their doors for good or for new locations.

Over the last year, Newton said goodbye to nail salons like Nouveau Nails, boutiques like X-Hale, specialty food shops like John Dewar & Co., and many restaurants including Skipjack's, Pizzapalooza, Sabra, Kouzina and South Pacific.

In addition, many stories in the Atrium Mall packed up and left this year, with the three remaining shops to close by the end of December or January.

And as our Visions for Vacancies feature shows, there are still plenty of empty storefronts in the city, particularly in the Newton Highlands neighborhood
