A "Dancing With the Stars" Run Continues for Aly Raisman

Needham's Olympic medalist survives another round of Dancing with the Stars, another star is not so lucky.

She's still dancing, and she's dancing for Boston. Aly Raisman, Needham's own gold-medaling Olympic gymnast, survived another round of ABC's Dancing With the Stars with her pineapple-throwing performance.  "I never shimmied that much in my life." Raisman said behind the scenes, "and I liked it a lot." She was declared safe about a third of the way into last night's program.  However, the judges and fans scores end up sending actor Andy Dick and his partner Sharna Burgess home. Burgess was reportedly angry about the judge's treatment of her partner.  Following the Boston Marathon bombing, a ballroom dancer and instructor who lost her leg in the attack did announce her intention to dance for the competition. Host Tom Bergeron said they …

Aly Raisman Wows Dancing with the Stars Judges on Latin Night

But they did not win immunity from being eliminated this week.

Going into Monday night's live Dancing with the Stars performance, Needham native Aly Raisman wasn't even sure who her partner would be, after Mark Ballas this week hurt his back doing a lift of Aly. The Olympic gold-medaling gymnast trained much of the week with someone else. But Ballas was back Monday night, and Aly & Mark were in fine form, dancing a hot salsa for a score of 29 out of 30 in week 7 of the season. Then, DWTS threw in a fresh competitive twist: a dance-off among six of seven competing couples. Aly & Mark won a cha-cha dance-off against another couple, which scored the gold-medaling Olympic gymnast and her professional dancing partner some extra points from the panel of judges. That means they ended Monday night at the …

Another Week of Aly Raisman on 'Dancing With the Stars'

ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" returns this week, and local Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman returns as well.

Evidently, the fans of Dancing With the Stars still think local Olympian Aly Raisman really is lovely. Her dance to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" earned her and dance partner Mark Ballas 27 out of 30 points from the judges. In last week's Results Show, she and her partner were among the first duos to be declared safe.  Combined with her scores from the previous week, Ballas and Raisman have earned 172 points, which puts her in third place overall. In the end the result show came down to pairs - former baseball player Sean Lowe and his partner Peta Murgatroyd and boxer Victor Ortiz and his partner Lindsay Arnold. After tallying the votes of the judges and the viewers Ortiz and Arnold were sent packing.  The judges rate and rank each …

Aly Raisman Safe for Another Week on Dancing With the Stars

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas were declared safe, along with Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough, were declared safe first in the April 23 show.

It appears the judges and fans of ABC's Dancing with the Stars are still in love with local Olympian Aly Raisman. Raisman, who started her gymnastics career in Newton, was one of the first contestants to be declared "safe" during the April 23 results show. She and her dancing partner Mark Ballas were joined by Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough to be ensured another week of competition. On the April 22 show Raisman and Ballas danced a foxtrot to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" and the pair earned 27 out of 30 points from the judges. That score put them in third place among the eight dance teams. Pickler and Hough earned 29 points Monday night as did contestant Zendaya and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy.  It was an all-Stevie Wonder evening…

Russian Festival to be Held this Weekend in Newton

The festival was postponed from last weekend.

Will Aly Raisman Survive This Round of Dancing with the Stars?

We think so; she does a decent foxtrot to a Steve Wonder tune.

'Isn't She Lovely.' That's the classic Steve Wonder tune to which Needham native Aly Raisman and her dancing partner Mark Ballas brought their foxtrot on Dancing with the Stars Monday night. The gymnast and the dancing pro earned 27 points from the DWTS judges. On an all-Stevie Wonder night — with Wonder there in-person and singing live when the couples weren't competing — Raisman was also part of a team dance. Aly's 'Team Samba' cooked to Stevie Wonder's song, 'Superstition.' It was an all-Stevie Wonder evening, with Wonder singing when the competing couples were not dancing. The dancing pair who receives the lowest combined score of judges' points and viewers' votes will be eliminated on tonight's, Tuesday's, results show. The show …
