The entire Newton community is invited to celebrate the 100th birthday and rededication of the Adams Street Synagogue, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 

Besides live music, wine and desserts, the event will feature several presentations, including an explanation of the current importance of Newton's oldest synagogue to the broader community, presented by Barry Shrage.

Barry Shrage has served as president of CJP—Boston’s Jewish Federation—since 1987.  Under Barry’s leadership, CJP focused on three priorities: creating a caring community, Jewish education to engage future generations, and strengthening our connection to Israel through community-to-community and people-to-people partnerships. 

Barry has been instrumental in the creation of several cutting-edge programs, pioneered in Boston and later replicated nationwide, as well as the Boston-Haifa Connection, Taglit-Birthright Israel,  Me'ah, and Boston’s Peerless Excellence and Affordability projects for Jewish day schools.  He champions partnerships between CJP, donors and recipient organizations.

After graduating from City College of New York, Barry earned a master’s degree in social work from Boston University. He and his wife Ellie live in Newton, where they raised their two children.
