Jonathan’s Bar and Grille Brings Friendly, Hometown Vibe to Newton

Owner and "hometown boy" Jonathan Glick wants customers at Jonathan's Bar and Grille to come in and stay a while to enjoy the food, the atmosphere - and running into their friends.

Jonathan Glick, owner of the newly opened Jonathan’s Bar and Grille, has returned to his roots. Though Glick moved here at age six, he considers himself a Newton native. He went through Newton public schools, graduating from Newton South High School in 1985. From there he went to UMass Amherst where he earned a degree in Hospitality Management. Glick even spent two months in the César Ritz College program in Switzerland, learning first-hand all aspects of running an upscale restaurant. But for the next 21 years, that would be Glick’s last foray into the culinary world. “I came back here and started working in my family’s real estate business,” Glick explains, matter-of-factly. “I finished the construction of these two buildings (the …

Kaplan was all about the importance of education in Newton, right? Move the Newton School Department offices into that space. Then you can use 100 Walnut Street as an annex of the Day Middle School. 100 Walnut street WAS the original Day Junior High school, for about 50 years. The school committee IS talking about the need to expand Day Middle School. Tell them to do it THIS way, instead of …   more ›

Comm Ave. Wine & Spirits is Now Open

The new liquor store offers fine wines and a selection of craft beers.

After some debate from the Newton Board of Aldermen and bit of building renovations, Comm Ave. Wine & Spirits is finally open for business. Located at 543 Commonwealth Ave. in Newton Centre, Comm Ave. Wine & Spirits just opened its doors last Monday, May 7, according to one of the store employees. Have a Business in Newton? Claim Your Listing!

A listing for your business is already on our site. But we want your help to make it better.

When Newton Patch launched in October 2010, editors and freelancers ventured to local businesses in order to collect information for our directory. Now, 15 months later, Patch Places is a spot where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods, and much more for spots around town. All users can add events taking place at local spots, can rate the business on a scale of one to five stars, and can add a review. But owners of local businesses get extra bonuses when they claim a listing. Owners or managers should search for their business listing and select "claim you listing" in order to make updates to the page. A form will pop up asking for your name, contact information, and proof of ownership. Within a few days, someone …

Revamped Newton Restaurant Offers Local Take on Mediterranean Cuisine

Ruzan Baghdasaryan and her husband Gurgen recently transformed their Erik's Pizza and Wings into the Mediterranean Grill. The grand opening of the new restaurant, which focuses on Russian and Armenian food, brought out some local politicos.

Although they have a lot of pride for their Armenian heritage, Ruzan and Gurgen Baghdasaryan had never planned to open the Mediterranean Grill. In 2008, after the couple closed their ten-year-old Waltham restaurant, Peter’s Pizza and Wings, they returned to their native Armenia for a few months. When they came back to the US, the Baghdasaryans opened Erik’s Pizza and Wings on Commonwealth Avenue. Like their Waltham restaurant, this location focused on typical pizza house fare but also featured a few traditional Armenian and Russian dishes that were not on the regular menu. Then something unexpected happened. “We had a different menu for Russian people, for Armenian people,” Ruzan explains. “But whoever came in, the Americans, saw what they…
