 a 23-acre preserve along the Charles River in Needham\, Newton and Welle
 sley and includes Echo Bridge\, which was designated a National Historic
  Landmark in 1982 and managed by the Department of Conservation.&nbsp\; 
 The Friends of Hemlock Gorge watch over the preserve\, host annual event
 s such as the spring and fall cleanups\, Annual Picnic and document the 
 area's history.
